August is the latest month to claim two birthstones: Peridot and Spinel. Peridot is very close to the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year - Greenery. With its signature yellow-green color, peridot is believed to instill power and influence in the wearer. Spinel comes in a variety of colors including oranges, pinks, blues, lavenders, mauves and vivid reds. The most valued spinel colors are bright red, cobalt blue, and vivid pink and orange. Throughout history, spinel was frequently confused with ruby; however, today, there has been a rekindled appreciation for spinel’s rich red color and history. It is thought to protect the owner from harm, to reconcile differences, and to soothe away sadness.
